A little bit of background story on sinew cordage (from info I have gleaned from google):

Sinew has been used as cordage throughout history.  It is made from drying the sinew from near the backbone of an animal.  Sinew connects muscles to bones, and is extremely strong and durable.  The natural form of sinew contains glues and as it dries, it shrinks, which eliminates the need for knots.  Sinew long ago was used for sewing hides (for example) and as it swells when it's wet, it seals the hole made by the awl and needle.

The Native Americans used it for sewing and attaching arrowheads, the Chugach regional used sinew from whales, porpoises, seals, goats & bears for sewing and making cords and bow strings.  The Inuit used the sinew for sewing their clothing (usually from caribou).

There is a wonderful history all about the origins of sinew and it is well worth investigating on google if you love knowing the background of items you are using.
