VINTAGE MACRAME BEADS - circa 1970 / 1980s
This bead is such a gorgeous feature for your next macrame or weave or beaded piece!
15mm is from hole to hole direction. The bead is actually a 6 sided shape. Like a triangle, but with the corners flattened. Very very unusual.
I'm going to say the design might be tribal African patterning, but if you have more information I would love to hear from you. There are so many designs out there it can be hard to come across the exact description. These beads are from a warehouse clearance we did years ago, and they have been in storage at least 20 years, and were purchased some years before that. So, we don't really know their age, but we know they can be amazing in the right spot!
These have a matte finish, and are a great match with animal print decor or fashion. You will need to look at the photos closely - you will see that the hole is kind of 'off centre' to the shape of the bead. This allows you to have either a flat side facing outwards, or a pointed side. (We have also included a photo with all 3 shapes we have in this style, so you can see what others are available. See our other listings if you want to know more about those. This listing is for 10 of the triangle shape beads.)
The patterning is rather unusual. Reminds me of animal prints. The sides of the bead have a tribal pattern on them on the largest sides, and the pattern/shape like etchings. The very corners of the bead are flat, about 4mm across and have a different etched look pattern which reminds me of fish bones.
Beads with large holes big enough for thick rope or leather strapping to pass through are really hard to come by! But here at Bead Shack we have quite a range of large holed beads!
Use metalised beads when you want the look of metallic, but don't want the heavy weight of using metal beads. Large metal beads will certainly weigh down your necklace pieces, or earrings! Use these in place of metal, and you will be delighted with the result. (They also don't have the price tag of metal beads!)
Some of our styles of metalised beads have large holes, so browse them thoroughly - you might find some that will suit your macrame or loomwork, hand weaving, drawstrings, bag embellishments, bag handles and the like.
Metalised means the actual piece is made from plastic & then coated in a metallic vintage look finish. These pieces are very hardy, and don't scratch or chip easily.
Our pieces are part of a bead haul we grabbed around 2007 and they were already at least 20 years old, probably more! New, not used items, of course! They are quite unusual & not something you see in the regular beading market, although a lot of the designs are classic designs from long ago, and are always repeated with new manufacturers.
